Flower of the Week: Chionodoxa

Chionodoxa, or glory-of-the-snow, is not as well-known as some other spring bulbs, but it is just as beautiful. Growing only 4 inches tall, it blooms about the same time as the daffodils. The flowers are typically bright blue, but there is also a pink variety. Like all spring bulbs, it should be planted in the fall. The foliage dies down and disappears in the summer, but given a location it likes (springtime sun, moisture while it’s growing, and well-drained soil), glory-of-the-snow will naturalize, multiply, and come back to delight you year after year.
