Flower of the Week: Anemone blanda

There is nothing “bland” about this charming spring flower, which appears in shades of white, pink, or blue around the time that the mid-season tulips are blooming. Only 6″ tall, it grows from bulb-like structures called corms and dies down to the ground in summer. It will thrive in part sun or in the filtered shade of deciduous trees and will come back to delight you year after year. Sometimes called Grecian windflowers, these delicate blooms actually do best in a protected location out of the wind.
