In Memoriam: Lynn Hess

We are sad to report the death of Lynn Hess.  Many of you knew him through his involvement in the Utah Associated Garden Clubs.  Among other activities, he spent many, many hours each year serving as the coordinator of the Floriculture Show at the Utah State Fair.  His obituary follows:

Malad, Idaho….David Lynn Hess, 59, former resident, passed away on Saturday October 29th, 2016.Lynn was born on March 17th, 1957 in Downey, Idaho, the son of Earl and Ruth Crapo Hess. He was raised and educated in Malad and was a graduate of the Malad High School class of 1975. He was a member of the Drama Club and the high school pep and concert bands. Lynn then graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatrical Arts. While there, he performed as a member of the Idaho State Marching Band. After college Lynn began a career as a cook and a Baker for several years. He held positions in the kitchen at the Pocatello Country Club, where he cooked with his mother’s recipes and at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City where he baked a variety of delicious pastries. Lynn eventually settled in Brigham City, UT, where he has been living for the past 19 years. In Brigham he had several employment opportunities including ten years working for Convergys. Lynn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed genealogy work. He was also active in community events. He was the president of the Utah Iris Society for two years, a member of the Brigham City Garden Club, and a member of the Brigham City Chamber of Commerce. He earned his floral design certificate and he loved creating floral Bouquets. He also enjoyed creating ceramic projects and taught ceramics classes. Lynn won many awards for his entries in the fair. Some of Lynn’s favorite memories were of the times he spent working at the Utah State Fair and Brigham City Peach Days as the Horticulture Specialist. He was always very artistic and creative. He made beautiful wedding cakes for his brother’s and niece’s weddings. He especially enjoyed creating the beautiful floral arrangements that he placed on the graves of loved ones on Memorial Day each year. Lynn was very compassionate and willing to serve others. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother; Ruth (Elgie) Hale of Brigham City, Utah. A brother; Garry (Annette) Hess of Malad, Idaho. A brother; Troy Hess of Malad, Idaho. A brother; Darin (Jamie) Hess of Malad, Idaho. He is also survived by his loving step brothers and sisters as well many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hess. Family and friends will gather for a small memorial service in the near future.
