The Utah Associated Garden Clubs, Inc. (UAGC) participates in an annual scholarship program in connection with the UAGC’s parent organization, the National Garden Clubs (NGC).
The UAGC scholarship program is open to all junior, senior, or graduate level students residing within the state of Utah and majoring in landscape architecture, horticulture, agriculture, botany, and related fields. The UAGC awards a scholarship between $350 and $600 to one student each year, and then forwards that student’s name to the NGC, where he or she competes against other state winners for scholarships up to $4,000. A total of 35 scholarships are typically awarded on a national level, although the dollar amount and total number of scholarships may vary from year to year.
Applicants on the state and national level are judged on academic record, applicant’s letter, honors and extracurricular experience, financial need, and recommendations. A minimum GPA of 3.25 is required. Information about applying for the scholarship is posted on the NGC website and is provided to all the institutions of higher learning in Utah. Because of its agricultural emphasis, Utah State University students tend to apply at a higher rate than others, but applications are welcome from students at other Utah institutions as well.
